You have got to be kidding me...

This is a picture of my son, cute eh? Does he look sick to any of you? Me neither...well he is. I attended the "Bad Mom Awards" and won the "Quit-waiting-for-the-cough-to-go-away" award. I got a standing ovation when they showed the clip of me at the doctors office. The PA walks in and I know her so I say, "I am so sorry, I always feel like I am over exaggerating." This scene was shown right after they take my baby's oxygen and it is a mere 92% and not going up. The PA has me hold him and she listens to him and then looks at me like, "You have got to be kidding me..." she then explains the decreased lung sounds, the crackles and the wheezes. The most obvious part was when she lifts his shirt and you can totally tell he is using every abdominal muscle to breath-um yeah. She tells me that he for sure has bronchiolitis (inflammation of the tubes we use to breath) and pneumonia. If I wasn't nominated for the "Bad Mom Awards" I would have called the "DUH!!" awards, but who needs that many awards (I would feel greedy!). So part of my acceptance speech included the part about how I can't get my 2 year old to hold still for his breathing treatments that I so dutifully get to give every 6 hours or as needed. I am crying out in the microphone: "Does anyone have any ideas????" I ended with the ever bad example of not learning my lesson when I had to take Sariah to the ER on a Sunday morning at 4 AM because I was waiting for her earache to go away. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

That's no fun. I am so sorry! We had to do the same thing with Brantley this winter and it took him helping me holding this mask up to him and watching his favorite movie to finally get him to be ok with it. Even then it was a fight. Hopefully he will get better soon and you wont have to give them to him for much longer. And you are not a bad mom. I do the same thing and so does every other mom out there!

Natalie is the same way with her breathing treatments but we get to give them to her every time she gets any kind of sickness because her lungs just aren't very strong, probably something to do with her being six weeks early. :) I wouldn't feel so bad about waiting I think we all do it. At first I used to rush Jay in every time he acted a little more tired than usual. Now my kids have to be bleeding to get me to think they need to go in.

Oh My goodness!! You are not a bad mom at all. In fact, you probably did the same thing that lots of Nurses do with their children because they know that most Moms worry way too much and take their kids to the doctors way too much! We had to do the albuterol treatments with Devin when he was 5 months old and had RSV and bronchiolitis. It was terrible. Maybe if you explain to Bubba that one of his toys is sick too and needs the treatment (aka-stuffed animal). Let Bubba do the treatment for the toy for a minute and see if he'll let you give him the treatment. I don't know, I don't have a toddler that old yet, but it's worth a try! I'm so sorry-Good luck to you. :)

Ethan had bronchiolitis a few months ago. That's scary stuff! You aren't a bad mom! It's SO hard to know when you're being paranoid and when it really is a big deal. I've been a nominee for the award many times...but it looks like you won this time. I'm sure I'll be nominated many more times in the future.
I sure love ya!

Sarah, Sarah, Sarah... I'm so embarrassed!!! I'm embarrassed because I heard the music start to play when you failed to notice the prompter telling you to end your speech. Come on now... And, get it together... when you get up to give an acceptance speech you don't ask the audience for help. You are supposed to Thank everyone and their dog, chickens, and rat babies. Didn't you get the memo?
Sarah, you are an awesome mom. But next time you get an award, you better thank the dang Vice President! GEEZ!

Oh poor little guy....Can I just say i have gotten the BAD MOM AWARD before SEVERAl times!!!! I use to be the mom that has taken both kids...more tanner( only because I have learned my lesson with him SAD)....to the dr for every cough, fever, sniffle....any little thing we were at the dr. Pay the $10 co pay and for them to just tell me that "it is just viral and we can't do anything for him. Make sure you keep him elevated with the humitifier and lots of liquids" I got a little sick of them telling me the same old thing so i stopped taking my kids EVERY single time...but I have had a few of the same situations were my kids are in fact VERY sick...Don't feel bad!!! It happens to ALL of us moms at least once!!!!

I know why...you are a nurse. We are all the same way...they'll be fine! I hope the little man gets better soon, what a bad time of year to be sick. Let me know if I can do anything to help!

Do you have a favorite toy you can attach to the oxygen mask. That worked for Sarabeth.

Sarah, last time I made a comment like that I ended up in "Dr. Nielsen's office and he was committing me to go see someone, not only that but I probably should remind you about Davey's fall that resulted in a lump that finally made me take him to the ER and he had a concusion, we all have those days you are a great mom with great kids and he doesn't even look sick.
