You HAVE to pick your battles!!!

Hi, it's me again. Just updating my post. So as you can see the title of my post this day is: You HAVE to pick your battles!!! Now why would I write such a funny thing? Because it is the motto of my LIFE! So for your entertainment and for my venthood I will go over some of the battles that have occurred since I last wrote. These pictures are starting from today and going all the way back to Bubba's birthday (I know I am so usually on top of it!). So as many of you know, and if you don't this would be your first reading of my blog, Sariah has been a bit of a challenge. We took her to that lovely psychiatrist and thought we were our own personal Columbus' finding America (or in our case Sarmerica). Alas it was not so and Melatonin is putting her to sleep, only to wake her up at 2am in the morning and "tap tap tap" on my head with her cute little finger. This is not the best method to wake a parent. I highly recommend standing about a foot away from your dad's face and breathing like you just finished a Marathon in record time. I'm sure my dad misses those nights-I'M SO SORRY DAD!! AAANNNYYways....when she arises in the morning she is not in the best of moods. I try and dress her while she is asleep, but whenever I go to put the shirt on, without even opening her eyes she shouts, "NOT THAT SHIRT!!" I then proceed to try and put it on and explain to her why it is the most perfect shirt for a Thursday. She abruptly removes it and gives me "the look." Then I say, "Fine! you pick out your shirt!" to which she immediately responds, "I don't have any shirts!!" I quickly glance at the overflowing drawer and I am hit slam bam in the head with a flashback: Enter-Sarah and High school days-I would scream all morning about not having anything to wear and end up putting something horrible on and crying as I went to school-I'M SO SORRY MOM!! So here I am standing in my own past, feeling regret for the way I treated my parents, and I pull out my secret weapon: "RUSTIN!!!!" He comes in and takes over. He has this weird ability to make her laugh. He proceeds to put a skirt on each thigh and imitate the shirts saying in a high pitchy voice: "pick me! pick me!" Even that did not sway her and she picked her own clothes out today. I told her it looked bad, I told her her life will never be the same etc..etc..etc. SHE WENT ANYWAYS!!!!

Don't you love the finishing touch of the bright pink shoes???????

AND THEN THERE WAS EASTER......
The other day me and the kids were coming back from Salt Lake and we started talking about Easter and the resurrection. It was so interesting to hear a kid's view of it. Bubba kept telling about how Jesus was in a cave and a really strong angel moved the rock. It was really kind of endearing when Sariah was telling me about Him hanging on the cross and the nail prints in His hands and in His feet. I love their innocence and simplicity.

Here are the kids with grandma. As you can tell Sariah had a very sugar-filled Easter. My mom put money in the eggs so the kids would have some money to spend at disneyland in May. It was a pretty uneventful hunt, but fun nonetheless.

See how much fun Steph is having???

And how much fun Kellie is SERIOUSLY having. Kellie is so funny.

Okay right in the middle of Easter I placed this pic and I am way too lazy to try and fix it so...This is Sariah all ready to go to her first Birthday Party. It was her "best friends'" party. She was so nervous. I had to take her. Rustin drew me a map on how to get to the girl's house. Well I really got lost and thought I had found her house on top of a hill. I could not figure out how to get up to the top of the hill. There were these people standing outside watching me (probably saying "tsk tsk city girl!"). So I drove up and asked them how to get to the top of the hill and she started showing me this dirt road that wound around the mountain. I just quickly said," now this is*her friend's last name*'s house right?" She looked at me and told me I was so so far off. She told me to keep going a couple more miles. We got there and Sariah said, "Goll mom, it's a good thing that lady knew where we were." I love being direction-challenged.

EASTER AGAIN.....

Here is Sariah coloring eggs. The last time we colored eggs was when she was 1 years old. So she thought it was completely amazing. I have bought a package for coloring eggs every year since then, I just never have the motivation to do it.....Just add it to the growing list for my nomination in the "Mom-in-survival-mode" category.

And then there was Bubba. Who had to take his shirt off. Our next FHE lesson is on obeying the Law of Modesty.....

Now on to Bubba's birthday....No this is not a mess up. My awesome friend had her baby on his birthday. I got to go to Cedar for the weekend. It was so so so so fun!! I really got to laugh my guts off so hard. We tried to go running in the freezing cold weather to get the lil' stinker here. She just waited til it was absolutely necessary for me to leave. It was so nice to be back in Cedar for a while. I loved seeing everyone at my old hospital and a few tears were shed on the way home.... (a few as in a huge pity party bawlfest).

Here is Bubba's Birthday. He got a pair of real cowboy boots. Sariah was so excited for his birthday. He also got a big stuffed dragon from that movie, "How to train a dragon." He takes him everywhere, including to the movie. Which by the way is a pretty sweet movie. Well that is all the excitement around here........Oh unless you think me fulfilling my dream since 4th grade: I AM GOING TO WASHINGTON DC!!!! Now many of you are probably wondering why this is such a big deal. I am a Holocaust freak! I have always wanted to go to the Holocaust museum and it is finally happening. I am going with my sis in law Tahnee. True, one day I would love to see Austria and all the camps there. But for now and maybe forever, this is going to be good enough for me. I would like to thank my husband for "allowing" me to go. I think he is just glad he doesn't have to hear about it anymore.

Hey Rustin and Sarah,
I have had a blast reading your blog. What a fun and creative couple. I can not wiat for our next party. Reading this has made me want to get to know you even better. Hang in there! We should really talk about all the questionaires you have to feel out when taking your kid to a counselor/phys. We had to do that too and I hanestly felt like I was crazy because I couldn't remember all of the events in my kids life. Anyway, LOVE the blog!! Go Red Sox!
